I'm all for calling out people without lights, but this thread is a little silly.

From my experience, I see just as many cars driving around at dusk/night without headlights as I see cyclists without headlights. I'd rather all the cars have lights on, so that my reflectors actually do something should they happen to not see my obnoxiously bright lights.

I usually tell people "hey your lights are off" (thanks to Nick D for the idea) even if they don't have any visible...rather than tell them to "get some lights".

I posted all of the cars that had their headlights off over on the cars-pgh site.

I see the thread as a helpful safety lesson. Why is it that we always say cars do it wrong to when we see something cyclist could improve on. Cars do it too is in this message board a lot. I think its great to give helpful safety advice and like my mom said I don't car what anyone else does you do whats right.

Could also be available if you actually know someone that may match the description to give them a heads up.

i got my feathers ruffled one evening riding home down gold way when a cyclist yelled at me to 'get some 'f***ing lights.' i have lights and i like to use them, but forgot them that morning as i was heading out the door for work. its one thing to be helpful, but its another to be condescending. that cyclist's comment made me want to commit bike on bike crime. could have been my day working with the public though...

I don't like being cynical, but if I made a post for every ninja cyclist that I see, then this would be a large thread indeed.

Maybe we could just wrap this up by saying its getting dark earlier and be carful during dusk hours as well as night. Just because we care.

That's kind of long to yell across the road.

Pretty poor ninjas, I tell you, to be seen at all.

I have mentioned something to a few people along my normal route (while on bicycle) and they were oblivious to the idea that they could not be seen. A few of them had blinkies the next day.

The first couple of posts on this thread were, IMHO, just ideal. What orionz06 said is also ideal. One gets the reader of this board/thread, the other gets direct contact. Both can be very effective.

Stay tuned for another bike light giveaway very soon. We have another 100 lights in the office awaiting handlebars and seat posts.

Ninja sighted Downtown, 7th St at Penn, northbound, evening of Sun 11/20, about 7:15. Male, beard, zip-up hoodie with a college shirt underneath. Everything black, no light either end, no reflector. It was dark and rainy, too. Just asking for trouble.

I feel strange riding in the dark with 4 lights given all the crazy reflections, I couldn't imagine zero.
