(OT?) Pittsburgh Sikh Temple Saturday - Candlelight Vigil for Wisconsin shooting

This is a solidarity event in light of the racist shootings that took place in Wisconsin last Sunday. Not strictly bike-related, but it seemed appropriate to post (post- hcurtis) since I know many here want to live, work and bike in a diverse city.

Saturday, August 11, 2012, 7:30pm until 8:45pm

Pittsburgh Sikh Gurdwara, 4407 McKenzie Drive, Monroeville,

The tragic events at the Wisconsin Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) on Sunday left our entire nation devastated and shocked. We commend the bravery of the Oak Creek Police Department and others, especially, Lt. Brian Murphy, who heroically saved the lives of many. As we remember the innocent people who lost their lives, we also pray for the speedy recovery of the survivors.

Please join us as we come together as a community, both Sikhs and non-Sikhs and solemnly share a prayer in remembrance of the innocent lives that were taken and stand together as a force against hate.

@jonawebb, can you recommend a good bike route to this from the east end & is it a reasonable ride to do in the dark with hi-vis clothing? I think you're familiar with the roads out this way.

It's OK doing it the way I would go so long as you're comfortable riding through Wilkinsburg at night.

I would go through Wilkinsburg taking Kelly, Wood, and Ross, then up Penn to Beulah Road. Cross under the Parkway to Churchill Road and follow that to Nottingham Drive. Down Nottingham (crossing William Penn) to turn right on McCrady Road, which becomes Old William Penn. You can follow that all the way to Haymaker, turn left on Haymaker, and find your way to the temple from there.

On my commute I get off Old William Penn at Duff. At some point after that it goes down to two lanes and is kind of narrow but I don't think you're going to have much problem with traffic at that time.
