It will reopen early spring of 2011, and will be usable every weekend during the project from Friday at 4:30 through Sunday evenings.

Part of Trail along Carson St. to Close for TWO years?
Has anyone heard about part of the trail closing along Carson St. from the Hot Metal Bridge south to the Glenwood Bridge? I ride that daily to commute, but today there was a new chain-link gate installed near the water-treatment plant. It was still open and there were some workers there so I asked them. They said a new water treatment plant is going to be built there and the trail will be closed for two years!!! They thought it was supposed to start June 21st. Can anyone confirm?

I believe it is, I rode it the other day.
I did notice that the large crane is between the trail and the river, and I aSSumE they're going to have to get it out of there eventually with a short-term closure.

Sorry for the delay I was out of town. I rode through there today, it's all open from Hot Metal Bridge down to the "traditional" dead end at the metal recycling card.

Thanks for the info. I took the chance on Wednesday and found it to be all open, now if there was just a easier way to get around sandcastle when the gate is locked.

Agreed, if they would have left the Sandcastle gate open this winter it would have been wonderful. Hopefully this year we'll see progress.

Willie and I and someone that will remain nameless may have gone through the Whemco private roadway to connect the end of the railroad tracks to the Waterfront Wednesday and Thursday on an out and back trip on the trail for some winter camping. We may or may not have been yelled at by an old security guard guy, and we may or may not have just ignored him and pedaled faster.
I've said it for years, but it's seriously a shame that after 300+ miles of beautiful trail from DC that this is the greeting you get to Pittsburgh. At least it goes with the old stereotype of a gritty, unwelcoming place that you'd never want to visit. Maybe I should consider it "authentic" instead.
