I'm taking the day off work to ride around to all the parks. If there's a group ride, all the better!
Pgh Park(ing) Day?
Is Pittsburgh participating in Park(ing) Day this year? ParkingDay.org suggests that Sept. 21, 2012 may be the day.
Last year IIRC there was a ride between all the mini-Parks (which I missed, and I'd like to make that ride this year if I can).
Does anybody know if/how this is happening? TIA, Vannevar.
I was just checking the FB page and the blog http://pghparkingday.wordpress.com/ and the map at https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=207766293882356402522.0004c95a155559f213d24&ie=UTF8&ll=40.484153,-79.948404&spn=0.110962,0.109362&t=p&source=embed
I haven't done this with BikePGH before. May I ask, could somebody please explain how/who/if anybody's organizing a ride to all the Parks? We'll be 3 or 4 bicyclists and we'd like to join a group ride if there is one. Thanks! V.
based on the listed locations, i'd probly start in lawrenceville, head downtown, over to southside, to oakland, then shadyside, & ending in regent sq.
Also, perhaps smallish groups to avoid slamming the people volunteering @ the sites.
Oh man who's riding out to Shaler Elementary school? Those teachers must be awesome.
Last year, I did a one-man ride starting at Tree Pittsburgh, the length of Penn to Downtown, then one or two on the SSide. I didn't try to hit every one of them, but did try to engage in a proper conversation at each one I did get to. Quality, not quantity.
I did this last year (with a small group) and had a great time! Unfortunately I have to work this Friday so I'll miss it this year.
nice, it look slike the count has doubled on the map today.
I just visited the Bike Pittsburgh message board expressedly to look for info about a bike ride, because I had fun during my lunch break last year on the ride.
Anyone interested in going around during lunch, starting around Oakland?
Another bike ride idea would be to meet at the Bike Pgh parking spot in the strip, go downtown -> South Side -> Oakland
Very excited for this. I printed out a map and am plotting a course, probably over ambitious as usual. For some reason I feel slightly like wearing a fake mustache, tweed jacket, and monocle for this. Just for whatev's.
@edmonds: Like this?
(Comics aficionados may recognize Mason Savoy...)
Mm, more "Dr. Watson" than that, I suppose.
I'll be helping set up the site at Penn & 8th St (Western Pennsylvania Conservancy). Should be pretty cool. Stop on by and check it out. Mustaches welcome
I'm so excited for today. It seemed like it is going to be a little warm for a jacket and moustache, so I just went with creative-class casual.
Hey, somehow I missed the Bike Pgh! space, the Parking Day map said 2109 Penn, was that right? I was out from like 12 til 2:00.
was it not up have been in the 3100's?
that would be closer to their offices.
They were outside of Reyna's, until about 2, I think.
Yeah, we were outside Reyna's from 6:30am until about 2pm. It was a lot of fun! Sorry we missed you @edmonds59!
