Data shows that Pittsburgh has one of the highest non-green driving scores with high CO2 emissions. That hasn't stopped motorists from declaring war on cyclists. Despite several fatal accidents, one bike advocate quoted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says many drivers view bikers as "the equivalent of a moving pothole."

You beat me to posting. I really wish the city would take a more proactive appraoch. Chicago is stepping up their game and has Memphis.
I do think that upcoming higher fuel prices will begin to change some peoples mentality.

What does "one of the highest non-green driving scores with high CO2 emissions" mean? There's no intrinsic meaning to the first part and no easy way to measure the latter part. So, sans citation my guess is, nothing.
Does anyone actually think our driving environment is nearly as bad as any of these places? I've driven in Pittsburgh and gotten sick of traffic, but have also driven most (well, all, outside of Cali) of these other places, and you can't compare. I have to be caffeinated to be aggressive enough to move through NY or DC and surroundings at all. Also, hello, missing Atlanta? WAY worse than Pittsburgh, sorry. There are a lot of medium to big cities that are.
And then a little tongue in cheek quote stripped of attribution or context is thrown in as an attempted closing thought on our fair city. What starts stupid ends stupid I suppose.

They probably go by hybrid cars per capita or some other measurement they can find on the internetz.

you would hate to hear the comments on my bus if im driving down baum maybee 20 yards behind a bike rider trying to keep other cars away so the bike rider has some space the passengers are yelling run him over its disgusting but i have to keep my mouth shut im not allowed to argue with the passengers but its terrible the stuff they say about us

Pothole = something motor vehicles try to avoid.
If: bicyclists = moving potholes,
Then: motor vehicles should be trying to avoid bicyclists.

As for driving, I'm not sure how we're wedged in-between New York. I've driven through both Manhattan and Brooklyn in a moving truck and it was pretty hellish. Well, perhaps more amusing. They're big fans of honking.
