Zegota - Bike Song

NO! Pedal away from global decay

Every pedal strikes a blow for freedom

Every pedal strikes a blow against global decay What will we sacrifice?

What will we sacrifice for life and land?

When will we understand that we're responsible for the environment?

What will we justify?

Making way for you...

It's not your fault Don't know what else to do...

Taking the prescribed path, you'll have to wreck your life It's not our fault, we had to wreck our lives We wreck our lives.

When I think of punk rock and biking, Mike Watt comes to mind. I cant recall any minutemen or firehose mentioning bikes, but in his rock opera biking was part of the process: Contemplating the Engine Room.

Helter Smelter

I just drive my car to work every day, didn't mean to hurt

nobody

Like 100 million other people just like me, I could tell there

wasn't any other way, I just couldn't

realize but now I think I'll throw

it away

Cuz there's 6 billion other

people just like me

I was thinking about blowin' up all the automobiles

It seemed like such a good idea

You said hey man wouldn't that be hypocritical

No way man cuz mines' the first to go

Do it, Now, Stick the rag in, Light the fucked up

I was thinking about melting down all the cars in the whole

world

Making brand new mountain bikes for all the boys and girls

You said hey man wouldn't that be helter skelter

No way man all we need is a giant smelter

Send it to Peoples Park, Berkeley CA, 94704

Ride a fucking bike

I just lit my car on fire today I didn't mean to hurt nobody

Just like 100 million other people just like me, I could tell

there wasn't any other way

I finally realized and now it's going up in flames

Cuz there's 6 billion other people just like me

Having fun, since I was six, We're only bike terrorists

Five thirty, second Friday, Berkeley Bart

Considering you call a recumbent a bicycle, it doesn't surprise me you call Queen a punk band.

another rambo song:

apocalypse riders

Industrial collapse. The wheels of the machine grind to a halt living in excess. Greedy bastards. We've closed in on ourselves. Detached from nature. Technology's children must fend for themselves. Dwindling resources. This lifestyle cannot be maintained. The bike punx will rule the wasteland. The wells run dry. Running on fumes when your car comes to a sputtering halt. We will become apocalypse riders. When wheels of steel dance on your graves you will fear apocalypse riders.

here's the lyrics to the dead things song:

River road, it streaches far and narrow,

my wheels are bald and my brakes worn thin.

The road is winding as the cracks open wide for me,

they're trying to swallow me whole.

The thorns and the briars scratch at my side as I try to ride on by. There in the bike lane I think of you, trying to make time.

In the bike lane, it's my place and

I'll fight 'till the death before you take it away.

The price on my head keeps rising every day

as I cut off another car on my way to your place.

The bike lane always leads to my baby.

The bike lane always takes me home.

ROCK HARD RIDE FREE

Get a grip on the action

Movin' heaven and earth

Gotta get a reaction

Push for all that you're worth

No denyin we're goin' against the grain

So defiant they'll never put us down

Rock Hard Ride Free

All day, all night

Rock Hard Ride Free

All your life

Tough as steel

Stop at nothin'

Look at fate in the face

Don't take no for an answer

Grab the lead in the race

Rock hard with a purpose

Got a mind that won't bend

Diehard resolution

That is true to the end

good clean fun - who shares wins:

If I have the helmets

And you have the Schwinns

Then we'll bike together

Because who shares wins

Going through some old files I found this stuff:

One thing that podcasts have helped done is push some bicycle themed music, like the tunes below.

Portland's Wandering Mind Society - "Pedal and Roam Theme song for KBOO Bike Show. Song has a DeadPhish feel to it.

Ryan Harvey -Riding my Bike to Work in the Rain - Nice upbeat acoustic tune

Funner than cars - Sung by Chicago Bicycle Federation Guru Randy Neufeld and Friends

Lists of other Bicycle Inspired Music

Bicycle Songs - http://bicycleuniverse.info/stuff/music.html

Note: Author trashes Neufeld's performance as unispiring

And two good songs that might fit into your soundtrack for a bicycle themed event. Each has little to do with bicycling

Saloon - Bicycle Thieves - Great title, retro-shoegaze/dreampop music

Orbit Bicycle Song - Edgy Alternative Rock worth the 99 cents for the legal download.

I remember back in the olden days, Timbuk2 used to include a CD of San Francisco messenger punk with their bags.

Pretty impressive. The first punk go-round was pretty much averse to any physical activity, I haven't been able to think of any references. Pogo-ing and vomiting were pretty much it for exercise, bikes weren't even on the radar.

Freezepop - "I Am a Bike Thief"

Not exactly punk, but some synth-punk and electroclash.
