Rain Capes in PGH?

In order to facilitate my descent into the lowest depth of commuter geekdom, I'm looking to get a rain cape (no, not PRO style--think Little Red Riding Hood). Anyone know if a shop in PGH sells these?

Well, I have a yellow rain cape from the Center for Appropriate Transport. (I'm not sure if I can link with html, but you can google it.) I think it's a large, and hi-viz yellow. I'd sell it if you're interested. Send me a private message.

I don't know of any shops in town that sell them.

Ya know, if you put a high-intensity light under one of those capes in hi-viz yellow or green, the glow would make you look sort of like a giant firefly pedaling down the road. Very attention-getting, methinks.

I'm curious.

What are the advantages of ponchos over rain jackets? I'm guessing better ventilation.

Do ponchos ever get loose when youa re going down hill?

Carridice and Brooks also make versions of these, and they are a little more classy and less nerdy.

You make it sound like those are bad things :-)

I want one because I hate wearing different clothes to ride to work. The cape would theoretically keep my legs drier than simply a rain jacket.

I guess you'd also want some spats, then.

if you don't use a front fender i can see that ting turning into a giant roadscum/water trap. with front and rear fenders, i bet it keeps you all sorts of dry and toasty.

Yeah, my feet stay fairly dry at the moment with full mudguards plus a really long mud-flap on the front. They only get a slightly wet from direct rain, but I'm guessing the cape will help with that.

i use a durable poncho from the army surplus store downtown. its whiteish-gray and costs about $5. i wear it like a cap, with my arms and handlebars tucked inside. combined with fenders it works great!

These capes must also be great with a tailwind, but from the head or side, well, not so much.
