Recall of Trek Bikes - Model Year 2012

Someone recently posted that they picked up a Trek 7.2 while at the store for something else. That prompts me to post this:

Problems with a bolt clamping saddles to seat posts prompted a recall of 27,000 Trek bikes, according a release from the company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

All of the bikes are from the 2012 model year, and include the following makes: 7.5 FX including WSD and Disc models:

• 7.4 FX including WSD models

• 7.3 FX including WSD and Disc models

• 7.2 FX including WSD models

• Livestrong FX including WSD models

• Livestrong District

• 9th District

• District

According to Trek, a problem could allow the saddle clamp bolt to break, which could allow the saddle to come off the seat post unexpectedly. If this happens, the rider could fall and possibly be injured. Your safety is very important to us. Therefore, Trek will replace the saddle clamp bolt on an affected bicycle, free of charge.

Buyers are advised contact your dealer, or call Trek at the special recall hotline: 800.373.4594.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel was nice enough to post the information to their website this afternoon. I wonder if we'll see any such notice from the PG?

(Please don't interpret that as wishing Trek ill, in any way. Quite the contrary. My intent was simply to point out that the Milwaukee newspaper decided that this information might be of interest to their readership.....as in they recognize that people might actually RIDE bikes.)

@Bear - it sounds like a quick fix, and I am sure Scholls will take good care of you...

I am glad to know you saw this. I could not for the life of me remember who had posted about a new Trek 7.2 FX, or under what thread.

This kind of stuff can happen to any company, glad to see it is an easy fix.

Yeah, I have the Livestrong District and it was a quick check. Apparently all the Trek of Pittsburgh stores have checked their 2012's they had in stock and those were fine (mine was too). Can't speak for other Trek retailers though, but anything shipped from this point forward should be fine I was told.
