Recommend Trails for Visitor

I will be staying Pittsburgh working on an event for 2 weeks and plan to bring my bicycle. I will be downtown at the Hilton and I am looking for a ride I can do in the mornings before working. I live in Brooklyn where cycling through the streets can be quite frightening at times and I am looking for something that is low stress and safe. I don't mind a few hills but nothing crazy.

Any recommendations?

Actually, If you are staying at the Hilton, you will be right across the street form Point State Park. It attaches directly to the Riverfront and North shore trails, both of which are easy and flat. Just have to watch for pedestrian traffic.

It is also very easy to get to the Eliza furnace and south side trails from there. It would take about half a mile of easy city street riding but those are also nice and flat and scenic.

You can check out the map online off the main page for more specifics.

I'd do a big loop, you have a few options. Managing to get to Station Square across the Smithfield St Bridge, right across the river from Point State Park, you can ride the Southside trail up river for about6 or 7 miles. Just about 2 miles before the end, right by the REI and Southside Works, you can cross the bike/ped Hot Metal Bridge. From there you turn right and you can ride trails up into the Oakland area where the universities are and Schenley Park. Make a left at the end of the bridge and you can take the trail the entire way back in Downtown, following it the whole way to the Smithfield St Bridge.

One giant loop, almost no car traffic. Links you to parks, miles and miles of trail, all kinds of stuff throughout the Southside a bunch of places to eat, museums and parks in Oakland. And downtown of course, which is busy during the day with all sorts of stuff.
