Recycling Uses Bicycle Tires

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I did a search but couldn't find anything on the message boards. Is there anywhere in Pittsburgh I can recycle my 26x1.95 tires? I'm sure some auto place would love to take my tires and $10 a tire, so maybe somewhere cheaper... Or free?

When I was in Kindred Cycles (Strip District) I overhead a customer ask if they took blown tubes and they said yes. Not sure if there's a charge. I want to say I heard that they give them to someone (an artist, perhaps?) who repurposes them into other things.

"Sorry if this has been asked and answered before." Actually... I was meaning to ask the same thing myself. Good question!

Performance has a recycling bin for tubes/tires that I've dropped stuff off at before in the front of the store, for free. Don't know what they do with them, offhand.

In 2010, Performance Bike had a collection partnership with Pittsburgh based Liberty Tire... so I assume they go to one of Liberty Tire's facilities. Thanks, I'll try PB.

Just blew out a tire and a tube.  Any update with this beside Performance?  Do they still take blown out tubes and tires?

I took a slew of tubes and tires not long ago to Performance.  I'm certain they still have the program.

Banker Supply in East Liberty takes used tubes. Not sure about tires.

thanks! so, I thought to myself, "I wonder if someone takes used tubes and tires in pittsburgh" just yesterday.  so I searched on the message board, found the thread, and said to myself, "shoot, the person that created this thread doesn't know how to spell. " So then I posted yesterday my question, and then realized that I was the person that created the thread several years ago. d'oh!

Hoping to revisit this thread now that Performance Bikes is gone.  Does anyone know of a new place to recycle tubes or tires?  Anyone ever try a car recycler?

Someone from Free Ride came by our Bike The Burgh shop on Penn a few months ago asking to collect old tubes. I’m assuming that’s still happening, and sure hope so as I have quite a few I’d like to drop off for them.
