Flock of Cycles will be marshaling the ride again! We will be looking for volunteers to help.

I'm willing (and would love, if possible) to be a marshal. It would be a great way to spend the day before my birthday.

I'm in.

@Aryn - You monitor traffic flow at an intersection. For example, making sure people actually stop at a traffic light, and getting those who had to wait to get started once the light turns green. May have to wave cars to get started to get out of the bikes' way. There will be a little instructional session beforehand.

CRUSTACEANS. I'm in Missouri for a wedding that evening. I'll take my bike and drink beer in honor of the ride :(

Scott gets a permit for this ride, correct? I know the Port Authority tweet-leaked the route to our "secret destination" last time based on a permit. I'm wondering if a permit would allow the Flock marshalls to keep the riders in a (safely) contiguous group? I remember being divided by about 10 lights on the last ride. Kind of a bummer...

reverse keg ride is way smaller than the forward keg ride, and the destination is the brewery so it's no secret (if i understand correctly - i've never done the reverse one).

having a permit doesn't imply a closed course - you're not allowed to direct traffic or cork intersections or anything of the sort.

Yeah, i think the reverse is a bit more fun..Especially since the brewery can accomodate more people milling about and chatting at the end.

Randy, I believe Venture Outdoors deals with the permits, but Salty is right--even with permits, we will still be required to follow the rules of the road, just like all the Flock rides.

A ride with a lot of people is bound to stretch out, that is just part of the territory. Don't look at it as a bummer though, it just makes the group look bigger.

Good points guys. The real bummer is that we cant drink Pedal Pale Ale all year round. Bring on the Snow Melt!! :-)

If I can get the day off Mrs. Marvelous and I are coming and I might even give my beer away.

Hey, wish I still lived in Pittsburgh and could get East End beer. This thread seemed a good place to post this. Feast your eyes on The Cycle Pub and dream large.

I don't have fenders for my bike, which will suck.

On the other hand I will have beer, which will be awesome.

Fun ride! I don't have the official count, but it looked like about 100 riders turned out on a wet, cold day. And a great way to raise a few bucks for autism awareness! (ABOARD, the Advisory Board on Autism and Related Disorders )

At ride's end, we got samples of their new Snow Melt brew. Their website states Snow Melt is "released with the first snowflakes of the year". Could not have been better timed!

Cold wet and wonderful. So glad I was guilted into getting off the front porch for the ride. As usual after I get there and start the ride, all the stupid reasons (like snow) I had for not going just fall away and I am once again reminded why I say that you guys are the best group of people I have met.

dbacklover

Had a good time, wearing my motorcycle helmet/jacket on a bicycle sucked but at least my face and upper body were warm.

Gotta agree with you dbacklover. The crowd makes these events.

@justray Every ride I go to I have this feeling of not wanting to go, and when I suck it up and get my bike off the porch I find that feeling just falls away and I end up so happy that I went.

When I first started going to all these group rides I was really worried about the people I would meet and since I'm old and fat that I wouldn't fit in.

I am so happy to say that I feel like I fit in more with all you guys than I do with just about anyone else.

Lucia, I need to make you a bat signal or something.

Photos coming soon, promise.
