Southside trail

I'll be traveling from the Southside to Homestead this evening.

Will the trail be open about 8 pm? I could imagine either contruction or flooding to close it. I'm mainly concerned with the stretch from Hot Metal to Glenwood

The construction folks are supposed to reopen the trail each Friday at 4:30 pm, according to http://www.friendsoftheriverfront.org/files/trail_status.html and http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11067/1130540-100.stm

As far as water levels, Google Earth indicates the lowest part of the Hot Metal to Glenwood segment is the part that's paralleled by Water Street. South of there the trail's around 730 feet, about as high as downtown Pittsburgh, as is Water Street. So my guess is at worst you'd have to use Water Street if there's water on that part of the trail.

i was down there an hour ago. the water is pretty high and supposed to rise another two feet. but you'll be fine though, safe by another 8 feet at least.

2 more feet? Yeesh. The Ohio Trail is gonna be a real mess, then.

A couple sections by the Science Center were under water at 5 today, and several other sections of the trail were within a couple of feet of flooding.

How high does the water have to get to cause trouble to the casino? IIRC the basement of Three Rivers Stadium flooded in 1996, and the water was high enough to flood streets down by 3RS.
