STOLEN BIKE! from polish hill pool

My friend's bike was stolen a few days ago from outside the pool - he says his u lock was cut. here's a description:

Blue Schwinn World

bullhorns - black fabric grip tape that has been sunbleached to dark grey

front brake - shimano, silver. Right side black pull brake on handlebar

no back reflector

it has an old harness for a back light on under the seat post.

new stock tire on front that "still has the cool little rubber hairs that are fun to pull off"

both tires are new and brown walled.

stock wheels

if you see this, please let me know! all info helps

I will keep a look out, but now I'm worried that my expensive lock will get cut up. :-/

EDIT: I think I saw that the other day! I see a bike similar to it at AIP sometimes, and I saw a black kid with shorter-than-shoulder-length braids and a baseball hat ride it past my work yesterday morning, on the sidewalk on penn heading away from downtown.

I recognized it from seeing it by school, and when I realized that if an AI student was going to be up at 5am, they'd be heading TOWARDS the school.

If I see them again, I'll call the police with the description.

I read on another message board that this bike had been left locked at the pool for a few days...

is it possible that the pool people cut the lock since it had been there a little while?

i saw a bike matching this description on gold way two or three days ago with a dude that didn't look like he belonged on it... didn't see the thread till after, but when i saw him the first time my "thats a stolen bike" alarm went off independent of this thread... i'd say it's pretty likely that it was this bike, although i do think talking to the pool/city is the best bet for getting it back

Any chance the kryponite was an old one with the circular type key that's defeatable with a pen? That would 'splain things some.

It would take 5 or more minutes to cut through a u-lock with a 4 1/2" hand held angle grinder!

I've heard it said that "there has never been a verified bike theft in Pittsburgh involving a U-lock being cut"... so, is this the first, or did something else happen (bic pen, locked to something flimsy like a chain link fence, lifted over a pole, etc)? Does the victim have the broken lock in their possession?
