Was this from the rack at the Regional Enterprise Tower? There are some security cameras that pick up that rack location. A bike was stolen from there last summer, or the summer before, and while the cameras caught it, the thief was too quick to be identifiable. He/She had clearly been scouting that location. Maybe we'll get a better image this time. Check with building management at the Regional Enterprise Tower (Bob Loose, 23rd Floor). I'll see if I kept the email chain that I had with the owner of that bike -- maybe it will give you some leads. On a separate note, someone at a summer FOC mentioned that aluminum bikes are sometimes stolen so that they frames can be sold as scrap. Might want to call around to local scrappers, offering a reward. P.S. I am really sorry to learn of your loss.
Stolen Trek 7.5 Fx
My white Trek 7.5 Fx was stolen Thursday afternoon around 3pm on the corner of 6 ave and William Penn ave (downtown Pittsburgh). It was locked with a master lock cable and another bike was taken at the same time. I purchased the bike new in July of 09. It is still is good shape. Here is a photo I took after I purchased it last year:
Yes. It was on a bike rack outside of the RET. The security cameras did catch 2 individuals riding away with the bikes; however, the video was not from a good angle and may not be very helpful in identifying the thieves. If you park near there, I would strongly suggest you use a cable and a u-lock. I can't believe they got away so quickly without anybody noticing.

Wow! That video goes on FOREVER! What's they do, gnaw through the lock(s) with their teeth? What time of day was this?
It was around 3:00 in the afternoon.
