Texting on the job - when your job is traffic safety

I'm surprised by the number of uniformed police I see out on the streets--who are stationed there to direct traffic around utility work--but who seem lost in the world of their smart phones.

I'm amazed that the city allows this -- these guys and gals are paid to be visually monitoring precarious traffic situations: often in zones with a lot of pedestrian & bicycle traffic mixed in with the cars.

Anyone else noticing this?

You might want to contact Mike Huss in the Mayor's office about this. He's in charge of public safety for the city. He's the person Nate Harper reports to.

Any time I've seen this, and am within ear/yell-shot, I will often loudly proclaim, "Hey, what's the score? Are we winning?"

Only once did I get an answer, every other time they put the phone away without a fuss, I guess because it was Backed With Sports N'at™

I get equally annoyed when the slow/stop rotating signage personnel at one lane sections do this as well. I don't trust drivers to not run into one another head on without their help.

On a related note, I've seen sanitation workers on two separate occasions polluting
