Texting on the job - when your job is traffic safety
I'm surprised by the number of uniformed police I see out on the streets--who are stationed there to direct traffic around utility work--but who seem lost in the world of their smart phones.
I'm amazed that the city allows this -- these guys and gals are paid to be visually monitoring precarious traffic situations: often in zones with a lot of pedestrian & bicycle traffic mixed in with the cars.
Anyone else noticing this?

Any time I've seen this, and am within ear/yell-shot, I will often loudly proclaim, "Hey, what's the score? Are we winning?"
Only once did I get an answer, every other time they put the phone away without a fuss, I guess because it was Backed With Sports N'at™
I get equally annoyed when the slow/stop rotating signage personnel at one lane sections do this as well. I don't trust drivers to not run into one another head on without their help.
