Thanks for all the cadence discussion..

A while back there was a discussion of cadence. I decided that given my history of knee injury I should pay more attention to cadence to avoid grinding.

The last couple of weeks, my rides into work (8 miles, a few small uphills, a major downhill, opposite in reverse), have been much more pleasant as a result of this new focus on cadence. I used to think gearing down was slowing me down. Now I know that consistent cadence, regardless of gear, will keep my speed where I want it to be.

So, I just wanted to thank you all for the earlier discussion. In some years, a heavy riding schedule has meant my knee would not permit me to do other things due to stiffness. No such problems this year. (Hope I am not inviting problems by posting this, of course.) I credit the new focus on consistent cadence for this relief.
