To Ohio Pyle and Back!

hey all, P-Rob and meself have tentatively planned a two-ish day trip and figured we'd post to see if there'd be anyone else interested in joining.

so far the plan is leaving Pittsburgh's southside around 6 or 7pm on Friday evening, camping at Dravo Cemetery, Cemetery to Ohio Pyle on Saturday, and then return to Pittsburgh and be back on Sunday evening.

We're traveling light and stopping for foods and coffees along the ways.

Sounds like a plan. Oh where will be the feast at the end of the day on Saturday?

If you wanted to get a bit gonzo, there are few restaurants as good as the River's Edge in Confluence. But that is 11 more miles in each direction.

Also you could stay at the Outflow Campground in Confluence if you travel those additional flat 11 miles.

Actually, I thought we might return Saturday evening. Riding back Sunday might take us beyond OP so there are many places to camp. I might have to make it further since I am supposed to cover 100 miles on one of those days to stay on my training goal schedule.

I will be backpacking to the big bad AT. Leaving on Friday probaly will stay at Dravo Cemetery campground on Friday. See yall at the campsite. 100 miles is a lot of pedaling P-Rob.

How did this go? Especially for Edward M, who had concerns about who he was camping with?

P-Rob did fine.

I wasn't well conditioned, and I wanted to travel light, i.e., no rain fly, no heavy sleeping bag. So, I froze, I tapped out at Ohiopyle and was then rained on.

We did 150ish miles over the weekend: 25 Friday night, 100 Saturday and 25 Sunday.

Bakery in West Newton was awesome. Met the President of the/a trail council in Boston at a sweet diner. Saw an old southsider in the pouring rain on the trail. He was wearing a leather jacket and black skater helmet, pedaling a olde tyme cruiser with a basket. No pics, though.

Hey, I am still such a troll since I dont spend much time on here but - man, I was reading some of the edward m stuff. he said I had a nice bike while we were riding off the next day (we arrived well after dark and camped away from where he was at). I had no idea who that was. I'm not really into it, but I would have offered to spoon with edward if he was concerned who he might be camping with (having now read the other posts).

When we saw the bearded guy in the rain with the leather jacket, I think "SouthSide" was what came to mind for both of us. It was a classic.

And fresh pepperoni rolls at 8 AM are totally flippin awesome. That was a baked-goods supported century. I give sloaps extra credit for riding it without sleep after his first cold night.

I have to ride the GAP again. Just knowing there are pepperoni rolls....

I made it to Rockwood. Why yall camp downhill from me? Some animal chewed my boots up at Dravo Cemetary and my fellow bike club members did not tell me. I was trying to rest my sore feet and sleep and was hearing noises. Am in the basement of Husky Haven with sore blistered feet feeling crippled after 18.5 miles backpacking with a heavy pack. Still have a half mile walk to campground.
