there are two fat bikes with male rider going old way. they both far behind. The reason as soon it gets too windy those guys cannot ride.

ICE (Inspired Cycle Engineering) makes some really sweet trikes. I understand they did this one as a custom job. Just stick a plow on the front, and it'd be a fine way to clear the HMB.

That's a cool fat-trike she's got there. It sounds like she picked the winning strategy: stable, aerodynamic, low gear ratio, shorter route. But the others who are currently cycling to the South Pole are doing it with less assistance: Maria Leijerstam: accompanied by support/camera crew in a motorized vehicle (why are they never in the pictures? :-), didn't start at the coast. Dan Burton: unaccompanied, but used food & fuel caches and replacement wheel air-dropped by support crew. Juan Menendez Granados: unaccompanied, unsupported, sometimes skis when the wind is excessive. Granados: discussion of support levels: http://forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/antartic-bike-ride-unassisted-south-pole-886698-11.html

Also, they're actually riding bicycles. Has to count for something.
