Tour De Lights type event?

In my old hometown of Knoxville, TN, there was always a "Tour De Lights" ride that was family friendly (1-2 miles), road through downtown, and consisted of people lighting their bikes up with battery LED's and dressing in their best holiday attire (sappy Christmas sweaters encouraged). Is there an event like this in Pittsburgh? If not, it sure would be a spectacle to have such a ride on the actual downtown light up night (Friday, November 22 it looks like).

I'm in! I wanna wrap my bike with cord light again. It'd be fun! Come on people, let's make this ride happen!?

There is the Hanukkah Ride, which is definitely a Festival of Lights ride, but also I'm afraid definitely not a Christmas ride. Monday Dec. 2nd. About four miles. Discussed in a separate thread on this board. Also, this Friday Nov15, Pgh Bike Party, about nine miles. Not to mention, Jan 1 2014, Icycle Bicycle Ride. That's all I got. Cheers, V.

Let me know if you arrange something beyond Vannevar's list if it's not Friday evening or Saturday during the day and not Christmas decor exclusive. Looking for excuses to ride with menorah as much as possible.

There are a variety of groups that usually do a ride for Light Up Night, including but not limited to Western Pa Wheelmen, meet up/in, LL Bean, and a few others. I have come across them at various times and some are decorated with lights. I also do a family type ride of about 12 miles, mostly on trails that hit all of the spots for a short period. I find that on a night like this, just seeing the people from a slight distance is much better than navigating the crowds. We typically make it to the casino for the tree lighting and have had that amplitheater all to ourselves, then mingle up the river trail for the bridge fireworks. Ride Leaves from and returning to Millvale riverfront park.

I am usually committed on that night for a work event, but am free this year. Hoping to participate in that family friendly ride. It always sounds like so much fun!

More specifics on those rides appreciated. Are they all in the cycling events calendar here?

Major Taylor usually has a group ride that night too. Not sure of details.

Light up night downtown is generally a huge clusterflock, and not necessarily any fun to ride through. Not saying it shouldn't be done, but some people have intentionally avoided the area in the past. I would highly recommend doing this Friday's Flock ride as a light up ride.

Light Up Night traffic downtown is about the same as it was for the arrival of the duck, Edmonds59 had the right phrase ... "ClusterFlock". Not to say anyone should avoid organizing an event, just some words of caution that a large group would have difficulties navigating and would end up highly scattered along the route. What might be more fun would perhaps be a neighborhood ride to view lit up houses & yards.

I'm prepared for light up night. (Sorry for the terrible image quality but you get the idea.)

I was about an hour late for meeting up with everyone, but it was nice riding around looking at all the people, and of course the fireworks :-) Next light-up is the Menorah ride.
