trail access near birmingham bridge?

Does anyone know what the best bike trail access is near birmingham bridge on the uptown side? I'm considering commute options there and wasn't sure if you have to go all the way down toward the access point at 2nd ave. near hot metal bridge or whether there is a way closer to Duquesne?

Thanks,

Dave

The short answer is there is no easy way to get to the jail trail from the Birmingham Bridge.

If you really must though, you can take the ramp down to Forbs avenue/ Oakland. At the bottom go left using the sidewalk to salmon a few hundred feet up to Brady street. Turn left and follow down toward 2nd avenue. There is a gravel/dirt lot at the bottom of the street with a path that will take you up to the jail trail.

Just be careful at the big intersection at the bottom of the Birmingham bridge ramp – drivers are confused on where they are going and they don’t expect to see peds or bikes.

would it be easier to not cross the birmingham bridge, and use the trail on the south side of the river? i don't know where you're going, but if you are using the trail, i presume it's either all the way downtown or to the hazelwood end.

@david: helpful to know where you hope to end up...

can you post the closest major intersections to your departure & arrival points?

Dave, when I lived in uptown, i'd use marko's suggested route frequently. It's not an "official" entrance to the trail, it's a service entrance, but it's easy enough to do.
