Well, zee jermins are setting the pace on sustainable living of course. ABC had a nice story this morning about Vauban, Germany.

There are a number of car free small towns throughout the alps in Switzerland, too.


While we're on the subject of Germans... I hate to be the guy that puts european transportation on a pedestal, but their local and regional public transit is in general, inspiring. I lived in Germany for a year, traveled frequently, and part of me wishes Port Authority would just hire a German/Belgian/Dutch/Danish engineering/planning firm for their redux and get it right.

Of course, no one loves cars as much as Americans do. But if this can happen in Germany, home of Mercedes and the high-speed Autobahn, then maybe Americans can do it, too.


I think "Loves" need to be changed on "relies".


I'd say the Japanese definitely love cars more than Americans. Actually thinking about it, I think a lot of cultures loves cars more than Americans. We are just to hard headed to embrace much more than cars.
