WALKING route recommendations for charity dog walk?

I don't even own a bike (but my husband has three - I think). I was hoping that the local bike community could help with a local walking event.

I follow the journey of Luke and his two Great Pyrenees on this website:

http://www.2dogs2000miles.org/

Luke lost a faithful friend, Malcolm, to cancer, and is walking with his current buddies to help support canine cancer research.

Luke, Hudson and Murphy will be coming through Pittsburgh soon, and they have asked for help in identifying safe roads to walk along. They've already been warned about Rt. 22, and I think they've been advised to avoid the Parkways, too.

I thought that local cyclists would have a good idea of what roads are safe for walking (on the berm) and which ones they should avoid.

If some of you could post your suggestions, I'll forward them onto Luke's team - or just send the team here to this site.

Also, if you'd like to support Luke's cause, they can use help with water drops along the route, or just people to help cheer them on.

A Friend to Cats (but dogs are cool, too)

There is the "panhandle trail" from weirton wv to walkers mill...

www.panhandletrail.org/

Depending on how far south they are coming from...

you say 22, so I assume stuebenville....

Out of stuebenville you can take cove road off of 2

(2 is river road)... to The old stuebenville pike,

which is Old 22.

It is a nice wide road with a shoulder and lower traffic.

From there I would cut south to get to oakdale, like take kelso - north branch -978

I wouldnt take the old stuebenvill anywhere east of 978, it is ugly.... get down to oakdale and get on noblestown.... follow that basically all the way to the west end circle. there is some sprawl that there are shortcuts to avoid if he emails me i can tell him more

Thanks, steevo! I'll pass this reply onto Luke's team, and tell them they can email you if they have questions.

If you could give us an idea of where he will be coming from, and where he will be going to, it would help us identify "walker friendly" streets and trails that could be pieced together into a route.

Swalfoort and anyone else who has ideas about this:

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure just where they're planning to enter Pittsburgh (except that they're coming from Zanesville).

I'm going to ask a member of Luke's team to set up an account here so that Bike Pgh members can communicate directly with him.
