and you can just come for the movie if you want
Wed June 30: BikeFest Event Brainstorming Session & Bike-In Movie Night!
hope to see yinz at this. it's our first movie night at the office. if it's nice out, we'll have it in the back patio, if it sucks out, we'll move it inside FREE and BYOB
----
Join us for an evening at the BikePGH Office
With BikeFest on the way and event ideas brewing, we thought it might be helpful to hold a group brainstorming/Q&A session at the Bike Pittsburgh office (3410 Penn Ave, at Penn and Butler Sts, Lawrenceville) next Wednesday, June 30th at 7 pm. If you have an event but aren’t sure how to organize it, or if you have an idea but not enough time to pull it off yourself, this is the time to get together, toss ideas around, and figure things out. If you want to just come and hang out, that’s great too! The more the merrier!
After, join us for a Bike-In Movie
Also following the brainstorming session, join us for our first movie screening at 8:30! True Stories is the pick of the night by Bike Pittsburgh’s newest crew member, Lolly Walsh. Talking Heads ringleader David Byrne’s directorial debut in this charming low-key musical montage about the mythical town of Virgil, Texas, where the lives of many of its eccentric citizens are exposed. Come rain or shine, but if weather permits we will be screening it outdoors in the back!
Come to brainstorm, watch a movie, or both! If you can’t make it but have event ideas or questions, check out our BikeFest Page or e-mail bikefestpgh@gmail.com.

bring a blanket to sit on
hmm... i think this is what we used to host at the Center for the Arts for the past couple of years. I wonder why it's not on our calendar this year?
blanket? wouldn't it be more appropriate to trackstand throughout the movie?
I grew up too fast, and I forgot my name...
Sounds great!
I wanna see salty trackstand through the whole movie! Can we throw popcorn as a diversion?

that's hopefully during bikefest. we just have this new space and want to have a bike in movie. hoping to have several more over the summer. the more bike in movies the merrier!
@ saltm513: are you in a place to help make it happen at pca?
top
Don't throw popcorn or huffys at me for this, but if you are looking for some additional inspiration ... Portland's Pedalpalozza had 298 rides / bicycle focused events this year.
Example:
THE JOY OF SECTS
Col. Summers Park, SE 20th Ave and Belmont St (Under the trees by the garden at belmont & 20th)
11:00am, Around 2 hours, interested parties may end up at a bar afterword to discuss the day's events
Exactly one year after the original Joy of Sects Ride, the Bike Temple takes you on a "speed dating" style tour of religion in Portland. A loop tour that visits a diverse and devout selections of houses of worship, giving a representative at each a chance to explain what they do and attempt to convert the group before it's time to take off.
lolly, that's awesome
I also like the Eine Brise ride description, but I'm in a noisy mood right now. I wonder if we could get rights to stage a second "performance"?
One of the other rides made me think of a bike/photography ride (ok, yes, I've seen Yes Man too many times too). But I don't know biking around the city that well and don't even own a camera.
The fallout shelter ride looks like a neat idea too. I think Linden Elementary might still be a fallout shelter, but it's been ~25 years since I participated in one of those drills.
What an awesome list.
@erok, I can certainly make the suggestion, but I'm not so much a decision maker as I am a follow-through-er. But I think we've hosted a couple bike-geared (no pun intended!) films in the past if I remember correctly... I think we showed "Rad" last year. I'll email a coworker and make the suggestion for this year.
Since this is BYOB, where is the best place to buy beer around your offices? Will church brew works sell 6-packs or growlers?
I'm still learning new things about PA alcohol laws.
Church Brew Works does sell delicious growlers, and you can get a growler of their fancy birch beer if you feel like making floats.
You can also get sixies at Belvedere's or Thunderbird or Graziano (Penn and Main).
holy crap i didn't realize they had birch beer on tap! its alcohol free AND sounds like my name!
Should I still come and put my "2 cents" for the cemetery ride? Like I said before, I have some general rural-cemetery history knowledge, as well as in some of the 'funeral fashions' displayed.
yes, bikeygirl, that would be fantastic. maybe you can help nudge us along to some other ideas as well.
I'll be at this! I'm hoping to get some ideas for a scavenger hunt (!!!!!) and ways that Free Ride can get involved.
heh. i used to work at church brew works, until a few months ago. i used to get sixers for $5. i miss that.
Mine cost me eleven! dollars. I got 12 packs of microbrew for $11 in California At least it was good beer.
Thanks guys for hosting movie night!
well i had to work there to get the special deal yanno. i hope you got the dunkel.
I got the variety pack. The dunkel is the only one I have yet to try. Tomorrow.
how did it go? i missed it.
The meeting seemed productive. I look forward to the blog/forum post with all the ideas people were throwing out.
I missed most of the movie because I was off eating tacos. From what I saw, it looked interesting enough that I added it to my netflix queue.
Thanks to everyone who showed up. I just posted the results from last night's meeting in the Official Bikefest Thread.
