That is awesome. I plan on building a good bike next spring, and I'm definitely going to try to get those.
When spoke and tire reflectors are not enough...
i'm going to have to see if chris knows about these, and if not get him to stock a few sets at thick.
If/when I get my lazy arse around to rebuilding the town 'bent, I'm getting a pair of those bad boys in 406. Makes the reflective sidewalls on my current tires look like _nothing_.
hmm.. says its a powder coating.. I wonder if anyone local could do something similar to a frame or something.. or an existing set of rims.
You might check with the manufacturer of said coating, see if they've partnered with anyone who can do frames.
Sadly, so far as I can tell, it's not available for purchase as a simple additive to existing powder.
I have had a set of the first ELVS Velocity rims for a couple of years now, and they are pretty damned eye-catching at night. And completely black during the day.
looks like a shop in kittaning sells itw Gema stuff.. who seems to be the distribution side of the halo stuff. so.. maybe you could get it done in the area.
wouldn't brake pads chew these up though?
No rim brakes on this stuff. Maybe if you were to use cork pads or something, but don't take my word for it. Disc or drivetrain brake only.
Hmmm..the Velocity site lists both non-machined and machined sidewalls for almost every rim on the Halo page. I've always assumed that machined sidewalls meant a rim braking surface...is that incorrect?
Regardless, I'll go disk when the time comes.
If there are machined sidewall versions, then yes they can use rim brakes. The versions I've seen in the past did not have a machined sidewall, the coating ran straight to the bead. It seems that has changed.
Man, retroreflective tape is so much cheaper.
