Winter Beginner MTB Ride, Saturdays @ 9:00 am

This will be every Saturday, snow or shine at 9 am. We will leave out of the shop, ride about a mile, on-road to the main access trail (Bridle Trail)through Schenley Park at the intersection of Hobart/Greenfield Road/Overlook Drive. We will then travel through the park on Bridle Trail, and will be stopping at certain points to regroup and ride the short sections of single track along the way. We will work our way down to Panther Hollow Pond, and then come up Boundary, Ellsworth and back to the shop. Total “map” mileage appears to be about 10 or so miles round trip. Planning on about 1.5 hours… I am hoping to accomplish a few things with this ride – newer mountain riders can develop skills on the single track sections, and more experienced riders can join if they would like to mentor newbies or just enjoy the brisk fall mornings on a casual ride and enjoy each others company. I know I need some “casual” this time of the year! Also, as the weather (particularly snow fall) becomes more prevalent, this is a platform to try riding in snowy conditions, and stay on the bike if you’re not a year-round commuter. Bridle Trail through Schenley seems like a totally rideable route through the winter, with the added bonus of NO CARS. Nothing quite like fresh snow in silent woods on the bike. Ride Type - Mountain Ride Mileage – 10 + Terrain – Street to trail head, gravel dirt road, short sections of single track. Ride Time length - 1.5 hours Start Date/Time/Location – November 1st/9:00 am/Performance Bike Recurrence – Every Saturday! You’re invited to join our Saturday morning, mountain bike group ride starting from and ending at our Pittsburgh, Performance Bicycle store. The ride is for entry level mountain bike riders. The ride will begin and end at the shop, and will last approximately 1.5 hours. This is a mixed terrain ride including paved street, loose gravel, and technical mountain bike single track sections in the woods. We will ride on the streets until we reach Schenley Park. Once in the park we will ride along the main gravel trail, exploring the shorter single track sections until we arrive at Panther Hollow Pond. The ride leaves the store every Saturday morning, 9:00 am and is a “No Rider Left Behind” ride, however the planned route does contain physically demanding terrain and features . Come out and join our ride leaders, for some fun outdoors. Bring a helmet, water bottle, spare tube, positive attitude :)

We have had a pretty good turn out so far. It has been a nice casual ride , introducing new mountain bike riders to the basic fundamentals of riding a mountain bike in technical, single track scenarios.
